Accomplishments
1997
April, Holly Holmberg Brooks began this organization by creating a web
community for girls, girsite.org.
October, GirlSite Journalist cover YWCA “Week Without Violence”
Event.
November, Girlsite.org web site is launched.
November, GirlSite Correspondents from San Francisco cover the State
of the World Forum.
1998
January, Girlsite.org named “Daily Pick” by Yahoo.
March, GirlSite selected for Excite Weekly Top Ten Teen Sites on the
Net.
April, The National Coalition of Girls Schools recognizes GirlSite as
a Resource with a Focus on Girls and Equality.
June, GirlSite Journalists cover White House Internet Summit in Los
Angeles.
July, GirlSite produces an Internet 101 curriculum for the National
YWCA TechGyrls program.
December, GirlSite participates in City Kids Event in New York City.
May, Highwood Online produces GirlSite Vision Awards and “a2K/99.”
1999
January, Holly Holmberg Brooks receives the YWCA TechGyrls Award for
Innovative Work with Girls and Technology.
May, Highwood Online produces GirlSite Vision Awards and “a2K/99.”
2000
February, New programs are started at Venice High School in collaboration
with the CAA Foundation.
March, GirlSite Journalists go to the Oscars.
2001
GirlSite is in the process of remodeling the site to reflect the Fall/Winter
GirlSite Journalist program. And focusing on the Phenomenal Women/ Cool
Career area because of it’s importance and popularity.
GS Journalist interview such woman as GirlSite Vision Award presenters
and honoree’s Sen. Hillary Clinton, Maria Shriver, Christy Carpenter,
Sen. Barbara Boxer, and Rhea Pearlman, The Oxygen Networks Khosi Kunene,
The Women In Technology International Conference, and MTV’s
SuChin Pak.
2002
October, GirlSite Network and Wired Kids team up with Alias’s
Michael Vartan to film an Internet Safety PSA.
November, GirlSite launches with an all-new look as part of their new
online community, the GirlSite Network.
The new GirlSite is designed as a web magazine because this format is
familiar and friendly to a teen, but more important GirlSite understands
the need to deliver content as well and with as much excitement as any
commercial site.
GirlSite’s first issue giveaways included a Daisy Rock guitar
and the new Alias: Declassified autographed by the entire Alias
cast, which brought in over a thousand entries.
2003
Another project GirlSite is working on is the GirlSite Show, which is
in development at Highwood Productions, a company of GirlSite’s
founder, Ms. Holly Holmberg Brooks. The GirlSite Show pilot is an innovative
teen entertainment talk show for network television.
May, GirlSite will present the 2nd GirlSite Vision Awards, “Follow
Your Dreams” in Hollywood to benefit local charities and other
non-profit organizations.
2004-Present
